Fun Halloween Idea Using Our Light Strands

It's the spookiest time of the year when ghosts and ghouls come out to play, and craft!  This year I have caught the Halloween Spirit, and have come up with a few fun craft ideas to bring a little inspiration into the Halloween Season.

Ghost Garland:

Things you will need:

  • Gauze pads, spread apart should be 8" x 8"
  • Ping Pong Balls ( These can be found at the dollar store)
  • Sharpies to draw faces with
  • A strand of warm white lights (I used Seasonal Source # 45694R-B)
  • Mod Podge
  • A paper plate
  • Egg Carton
  • Nails (Enough for each ping pong ball)

Step 1:

Grab a ping pong ball and start poking a hole in it.  This hole will be used to slide over top of each individual light socket.  The balls that I used had brand writing on them.  So this is where I decided to poke my holes, as I wanted that part to be on the bottom of my ghost's face.

Step 2:

This step is where you will want to draw the faces on your ping pong balls.  This step I did a google search for "Ghost Faces" and it brought up some really fun designs.  As you can see in the picture to the right. I had lots of fun, and each one is it's own individual, no duplicates.
The screw that you can see is what I used to post my ghosts on to dry after the next step.

Step 3:

This is the messy part.  Take the empty plate and poor the Mod Podge onto the plate.  This is where your going to wallow the gauze in the Mod Podge to get it all sticky.  I did this one unfolded gauze pad at a time.  Wring out any extra Mod Podge and then fold the gooey gauze over top of your ping pong ball ghost faces.  And then poke the hole end down onto the egg carton of nails.  It will look something similar to the picture on the right.  If you are not too crowded you can frill out the gauze, and form into different designs.  It's quite fun to make your ghosts look like their fluttering.  The drying time will be a few hours.  For me I crowded the ghosts close together, and that made them take longer to dry.

Step 4:

Here's the fun part.  Now that your ghosts are dry, remove them from the nails.  Do so carefully as to not pull apart any of the companions that may have dried together.  Now that they ghosts are separated take one and put it over top one of the sockets.  If you want more stability you can hot glue the heads to the socket.  I didn't, and I've not had a problem with them.  Depending on how long of a strand you purchased, be sure to space out the ghosts evenly.  For me I placed a ghost on every 4th light.

Step 5:

Now wrap your ghost adorned garland around whatever you want.  The great thing about this is it can be used inside or outside.  The Mod Podge will offer some water proofing.  I chose to wrap mine around a old sign pole, and it's hanging out underneath my front porch eve.
We have all the strands that you will need to create this fun ghostly garland.  We have various colors, to help you get your creative juices flowing.
